The Setting

Little Squiggles is a home-based childcare setting designed to feel comfortable, familiar, and secure for young children.

The environment is carefully organised to allow children to move freely between activities, make choices in their play, and feel confident exploring both independently and with support.

Learning and Development

I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework to support children’s learning and development across all areas.

Observations and assessments are used to understand each child’s progress and plan appropriate next steps, ensuring they are both supported and gently challenged.

I work closely with parents to share progress and development, helping to create consistency between home and the setting.

Meals & Snacks

Meals and snacks are provided at regular times throughout the day, supporting a calm and consistent routine.

Individual dietary requirements, allergies, and preferences are always carefully considered, and I work in partnership with parents to ensure each child’s needs are fully met.

Mealtimes are social and relaxed, encouraging communication, independence, and positive routines around food.

Daily Routine

The day follows a consistent but flexible routine, helping children feel safe and secure while allowing space for exploration and play.

This includes:

  • Arrival and settling in

  • Play and learning opportunities

  • Snack and meal times

  • Rest or quiet time where needed

  • Preparation for home time

  • The routine is adapted to meet each child’s individual needs, age, and stage of development.

Supporting Children's Development

Children are supported to develop key skills through everyday experiences, including:

  • Communication and language through interaction and conversation

  • Physical development through indoor and outdoor play

  • Personal, social, and emotional development through relationships and routines

Each child is supported as an individual, helping them to feel confident, secure, and capable.

Inclusion & Special Educational Needs (SEND)

At Little Squiggles, I am committed to providing an inclusive environment where all children are valued and supported.

I welcome and support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and work closely with parents and other professionals where needed to ensure each child’s individual needs are met.

Every child is included in activities and experiences, with appropriate adjustments made to support their learning, development, and wellbeing.

A full range of policies and procedures are in place to ensure a safe, consistent, and professional service.

These include safeguarding, behaviour management, health and safety, and equality and inclusion.
